Where to find a beach house bargain in Australia

It’s the great Aussie dream – a place to call your own near the water.

Looking for an affordable beach house? Here are Australia’s coastal bargain suburbs.

These are the small, sleepy beachside towns that according to realestate.com.au/invest data are most likely to deliver on value for money.

We started our search for Australia’s most affordable coastal suburbs by looking at areas that have long been popular with holiday makers.

We looked at the median sale price in each area over the past 12 months. But prices fluctuate, right?

So we also examined the growth in median house prices for each area over the previous five years, up to December 6, 2015.

How’s the serenity?

If you want a bargain beachside property, head to Victoria.  The state that markets itself to the nation as the place to be is home to eight of the nation’s top ten suburbs for a coastal bargain.

Golden Beach tops the list, with a median price over the past 12 months of just $123, 500. Local agent Laurie Keady from Surf Edge Real Estate says the area, which has just one general store, offers a great coastal escape.

“People want to get away from the hustle and the bustle,” she says.

“We’re very small and sleepy.

The area is home to the iconic waters of Ninety Mile Beach and is a three-hour drive from Melbourne’s CBD.

“It’s a pristine beautiful beach that never gets crowded,” she says.

The suburb is mostly made up of visitors year-round, with savvy buyers letting out their properties for short stays.
